![]() petra.electricshockmusic.com :: < Back Forward > Member Profiles > Bob Hartman Petra was established in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1972 as the result of the collaboration between four Christian Training Center students - Bob Hartman (guitar, vocals), Greg Hough (guitar, vocals), John DeGroff (bass), and Bill Glover (drums). Although Petra has endured numerous incarnations throughout its 30+ year tenure, founding member Bob Hartman has faithfully remained as the band's principal songwriter, leader, and guitarist. Bob Hartman has always been the driving force behind Petra. By 1995, however, Hartman retired from the band's touring lineup in order to concentrate more on his songwriting and spend more time with his family. He continued to compose music for, perform on, and co-produce each of Petra's subsequent releases. Hartman returned as a full-time touring member of the band in time for 2003's Jekyll & Hyde and its subsequent tours, including the 2005 Farewell World Tour. Although Petra has consistently been his primary musical focus, Bob Hartman has made guest appearances on recordings released by Geoff Moore & The Distance (A Place To Stand, 1988), One Bad Pig (Swine Flew, 1990), and Morgan Cryar (The Best Of Morgan Cryar: What Sin?, 1998). He has also authored two devotionals (1997's More Power To Ya: The Petra Devotional and 1998's God Fixation: The Devotional Based On The Music) and has contributed to various music videos and soundtracks, including 1989's Who Do You Listen To?. Aside from Petra, Bob Hartman is actively involved in several aspects of the music industry. He owns and operates the ProTools-equipped House of Bob Studio, where much of Revival and Jekyll & Hyde were recorded. As the owner of Bob Hartman Guitars, he also designs and constructs his own musical instruments. When not composing or recording music, Bob Hartman's other hobbies include digital photography and playing tennis.
